Is Something Making Sense at Tourism and Air Seychelles?

Jan 13, 2014
Air Seychelles, the national airline of the Republic of Seychelles, today signed an agreement with the Vanilla Islands Organization to increase visitor numbers to the Indian Ocean.
Under the strategic marketing agreement, the signatories will invest in a range of cooperative programs and products to attract visitors to the Indian Ocean from Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Air Seychelles and the Vanilla Island’s marketing messages will be maximized in the partnership and both organizations will benefit from enhanced presence on each other’s marketing materials.
Signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the airline’s new Fixed Base Operation (FBO), Air Seychelles VIP, at Seychelles International Airport, were Cramer Ball, Chief Executive Officer of Air Seychelles, and Pascal Viroleau, Chief Executive Officer of the Vanilla Islands Organization.
Also present were Alain St.Ange, Seychelles Minister for Tourism and Culture and President of the Vanilla Island Organization; Jean-Paul Adam, Seychelles Minister for Foreign Affairs; Didier Robert, President of the La Reunion Council; other regional dignitaries; and senior staff of Air Seychelles.
Mr. Ball said the Indian Ocean was strategically important to Air Seychelles with traffic to the region contributing significantly to the bottom line through its Mauritius and Johannesburg routes.
"We are delighted to sign this deal with the Vanilla Islands Organization, which is doing an impressive job creating interest in the Indian Ocean. Our partnership makes good business sense as there is a great natural synergy between our regional ambitions and the Vanilla Island’s aims to increase connectivity to and between the islands. We look forward to working with them and other regional tourism partners to drive new business to the region and Seychelles," said Mr. Ball.
"We are already working closely with Air Austral to increase traffic on each other’s flights by leveraging network synergies."
Mr. Viroleau commended the airline’s regional expansion plans and said: "We are delighted to work with Air Seychelles to develop new products that will attract travelers to and between the islands of the region. One need only try to travel from Seychelles to Madagascar or Comoros to realize how limited the transportation options within the Indian Ocean are at present. With the addition of an A319 later this year and simultaneous launch of new regional services, Air Seychelles adds a powerful new dimension to the marketing of the Indian Ocean."
The Vanilla Islands concept, created in August 2010 under the aegis of the Indian Ocean Commission, aims to unify the islands of Comoros, Mauritius, Madagascar, La Reunion, Seychelles, Maldives, and Mayotte, under one tourism brand while retaining each of the island’s unique selling propositions.
Air Seychelles, the region’s only four-star airline, currently operates three services to Mauritius and Johannesburg each per week, seven services per week to Abu Dhabi, and three services to Hong Kong via Abu Dhabi.

  1. One may ask ,how can Air Sey boost arrivals in those countires without having direct flights to those countires man marekt?Mauritius,Reunion fly also to destination around Asia,Afirca where Airsey is flying,It is difficult to figure how AirSey would make a different by following the strategy it has followed since it was sold to ETIHAD.

The other probelm is retaining each its own strategy can impede the project. In fact they should provide combined interesting prices that would entice more arrivals fo instance,by offering a package to tourists whgereby they can combine their visit,In other words, allow a tourist to pay one price but be able to speperate his holiday in different parts...For instance in a three-week holiday she or he can combine one wekk seychelles, one week Mauritius etc....Making it more interesting.

That ticket buy for an airline can be use on other airlines.

  3. While the idea may have potential and be an interesting idea,St Ange failed to provide a master plan for the Vanilla Islands project. While i agree that each country must continue to develop their respective National market naltionally,i thought St Ange and colleges would have for instance, put in place a plan that would offer tourists an extra possiblity namely ----Giving the visitors the of Choice that allow them to combine two islands or more together(e.g Flight Air MAuritius to Port Loius enjoy one/two weeks there and after fly to Victoria and enjoy One /two weeks in Seychelles before flighing back home,or vice versa or combining other islands). For this National Airlines and hotels, travel agencies would ahve to work together in order to put in palce strategeties, transfer regluations, setting an intersting price etc..etc..
I beleive this could provide an interesting alterantive to any tourists who would have liked to visit different islands in the region but paying each destination indiviudally become too expensive.

I remMEber in the (0's ,when African Safari(which is a travel agent not a country)porvide such combination (Kenya/Seychelles)to its clients,it was success. The same strategy could be used to attract more tourists in the region at States level.

Should such a prject work ,there is also the possbility to develop the region tourism together for instance,by building a small cruise Ship fleet to monopolize this lucrativve but unexisting business in the region. It would be less costly should the project financing is done by all countires part of Vanilla Island project than a single country alone.
They could also create an Interantional yatch race----starting for instzacne from Commores island,marituis/reunion,ending in Seychelles etc...

there are many things that could be develoed/done by Vanilla Island project, what is needed is the will, the right idea, the right strategy and so on.

That is a result of Pp policy that has chased away other potential foriegn airlines operating to our shores in order to allow Khalfia to monopolize this destination regardless of its negative consequences on our tourism industry.Khalifa wishes is above anything even national intertests.

When you monopolize something you can allow yourself to paly with the price, increase it at will, and since you alone offering the service customers have no choice than paying the high over.rating price.

With the arrival of Seychelles Airline ,Khalifa would have to change his strategy meaning decrease price,in order not to lot clients due to competition.

  5. When an Airline has ben given the monopoly of ourAirspace and flight operation to our country then it posses the power to do what ever it likes---from price increase at will, cancellation at will etc....One could question this high unexplanable price since Emirates benefits from all kinds of financial advantages---free landing fee, parking fee,oil at low cost, its monopoly of the destination,etc..etc..etc..
Emirates high price in a word, demonstrates why Seychellois oppsed the deal with Emirates/ethihad whatever their names, for it was clear as has been porven thatit is not in the interest of our land but simply a strrategy conducted by PP to please Khalifa .Khlafia interests for PP is most important than National interests.
That what happen when we allow monkeys instead of Human- being rule the country .
